THE ADULT CHOIR is for adults only. They perform at all high holiday services, select Friday evening Shabbat services, special celebrations and accompany guest artists as part of the artist in residence program. These dedicated adults practice every Monday evening with the organist/choir director. The majority of their songs are in Hebrew. Adult Choir members should be able to read music, able to keep on pitch and be familiar with Hebrew. Stronger members are often given soloists and/or duets. Some of the members are gifted musicians and often accompany the choir.
Adult Choir 2014
All choir members are volunteers.
Participating in the youth and teen choirs is an excellent opportunity for young people to begin preparation towards Bar and Bat Mitzvah. The students learn to be comfortable in front of their congregation and helping to lead the service by singing the traditional Shabbat prayers. Participating in choir also allows the choir members to perform mitzvot for their temple as well as to earn community service credits in their secular school. In addition, choir members learn the importance of working as a team while strengthening friendships. All that is required to join is enthusiasm.
THE YOUTH CHOIR consists on youngsters grades three through seven. Working with Cantor Rica Timman they practice throughout the school year. They sing songs in Hebrew and English at the once a month Friday evening family service, high holiday family service and other holiday celebrations as well as with guest artists as part of the artist in residence series. They also perform at various senior residences throughout Long Island. Participation in the youth choir allows for an easy transition to the teen choir.
THE TEEN CHOIR consists of teens grades seven through twelve. Working with Cantor Rica Timman they practice throughout the school year. They sing songs in Hebrew and English at select family services and adult services, high holiday family service and other holiday celebrations as well as with guest artists as part of the artist in residence series. They also perform at various senior residences throughout Long Island.
